2007 TMSA Elections

Trent Muslim Students Association’s (TMSA) elections are coming up! If you are interested on the following positions, please reply back to trent_msa@yahoo.ca , For more information on TMSA, visit the website www.trentu.ca/tmsa.

Elections will be held on Thursday, 20th of September at Lady Eaton College dinning hall from 8 to 9 p.m. All applicants are welcome to apply. Candidates are required to have a small speech/paragraph (which they will read out or speak about) stating:

• A brief description of themselves
• Why they think they are suitable for the position they are running for
• Their vision/future goal for TMSA

Positions available:

Co-Chair(1), Co-Chair(2), Finance Officer, Publicity Officer, Activities Coordinator (1), Activities Coordinator (2), External Affairs Office, Webmaster

Below is a brief summary of the duties carried out by each executive member:

Co-chairs: Overlook the general TMSA operations and ensure timelines are followed for each program. The co chairs are responsible for all TMSA operation together and also chair the meetings and follow up the activities of other executive members. The lists of programs to be overlooked by co chairs are:

Jumah prayers, Daily Iftar during Ramadan, Eid Dinners, Islam Awareness Week, Social gatherings, organizing debates, fundraising events (ex. Hannah tattoos), representing TMSA at: TISA board meetings, representing TMSA to Trent and Non Trent organizations, and liaison to the Peterborough community.

Admn/Finance Officer: Prepare budgets and financial reports and keep records of all financial and administrative documents. The admn/finance officer is responsible for contacting colleges and groups for funding for TMSA and budgets the amount that can be spent for each event. The biggest event carried out by TMSA is Islam Awareness Week and proper budgeting is mandatory for the event. The person in charge should also ensure that enough funds are available towards the end of the academic year to be passed on to the new executives.

Publicity Officer/Webmaster: Responsible for updating the website regularly, designing posters for various events and publicize events through all media sources namely Trent website, Trent Radio, local newspapers, colleges with the help of Junior Publicity officer.

Events Coordinator: Responsible for proposing the events to be carried out by TMSA and organizing them. This would require early planning so that members of the executive committee approve the plan. The events to be organized will be under the supervision of the co chairs. The events to be orgnized are as listed for the co chairs.

First year Assistant Publicity: Position is open to first year students only and the student will work under the publicity officer and assist them in their work.

External Affairs Officer: Responsible for maintaining external relations with the Peterborough Muslim community and other student groups of Trent and MSA's of Canada.
